“Victors don't let the results of what they do impact the confidence that comes with being a child of the King.”
As quoted from the book "Victor - Breaking Free From a Victim-Based Society" by John H. Hovis

Confidence. What comes to mind when you think of that word? If you are like me images cover the gamut from pride to security. Nothing bolsters one’s confidence like the assurance of a positive outcome in one’s life - don’t you agree?
Conventional wisdom states that there are only two things we can be assured of - death and taxes! So, how’s anyone supposed to live like a victor if the outcome of whatever we are involved in can’t be assured? it’s exactly in that space of uncertainty where the victor starts to set himself/herself apart in this world.
Yesterday’s Bible reading is such an important verse for victors to grasp. Let’s re-read that verse and take a look at it in light of our need for assurance of an outcome in life.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
Sadly, no where in today’s reading is the outcome of a particular role the victor plays assured. What is assured are two things - God will not leave you, nor will He forsake you. The promises surrounding the words leave and forsake are powerful assurances for the victor, especially when the roles we play aren’t working out quite the way we thought they would. Let’s look at each word separately.
God assures us that he won’t leave us. Nothing makes a victor turn to victim thinking quicker than feeling alone. When times are tough, the feeling of being alone can be just about more than a person can handle. The assurance that God NEVER leaves us is such a powerful promise. I’ll bet there has been times in your life that you can look back on now and say, “Thank God He was with me when…”. The victor is never alone. Though the outcome of what the victor may be a part of can’t be assured, the fact that God goes with the victor through the good and bad results is what keeps the victor from succumbing to victim thinking.
Not only does God promise not to leave us, today’s reading shows He will never forsake us. The word forsake speaks of forgetting about someone or something. When you forsake something it is as though that thing doesn’t even exist. It has no worth or value to you therefore you don’t even give that thing a second thought.
So many of us feel forsaken. This can be particularly the case when bad times hit. It is so easy to think that God has given up on us when the waves of life are battering against us. The victor fights off victim thinking during these difficult times by holding onto the promise that God never devalues, counts worthless, has forgotten, or abandoned His beloved child. The assurance of never being forsaken is a powerfully rich and deeply impacting promise. Never do we have to believe the lie that comes when life is difficult; the lie that says we just don’t matter.
The fact is that the outcome of the issues you face today can’t be guaranteed. What is guaranteed is that you aren’t going through today’s issues alone. You can also rest assured that God thinks you are perfectly suited to be exactly what is needed today as you deal with the issues that will come your way. The victor holds onto the fact that God never leaves and never forsakes His Children. Let these assurances be what fuels your confidence of being a victor.
